Our Story

Being the son of a second-generation architect, it might have been expected that Collins Pearson would follow directly in his father’s footsteps. But for Collins, simply imagining homes on paper wasn’t enough. From the time he could walk job sites with his father, he saw the world through the eyes of an architect, a builder, and most importantly, an innovator. That early experience sparked a lifelong passion for creating homes that blend thoughtful design with superior craftsmanship.

Collins took his first hands-on approach to building in 1987 with a summer job in residential remodeling at VGS Construction in Huntsville, Alabama. There, he learned a vital lesson—that to be successful, a builder must first understand costs. The following summer, he joined Pierce Construction as an estimator, gaining valuable experience in commercial construction.
Following the family tradition, Collins attended Auburn University, where he studied Building Science and minored in Business. While pursuing his degree, he worked as a crew chief for Pro Court and even launched his first independent contracting business, managing small projects like decks and outdoor structures. He graduated in 1992, ready to bring his education and hands-on experience together in the real world.

After returning to Huntsville, Collins founded Alabama Heritage Inc. in 1992, specializing in high-end residential and light commercial construction. The company’s success was immediate—growing from just two homes in the first year to an average of 85 homes annually by 2001.
During this time, Collins mastered the business side of building: tracking sales performance, managing budgets, and balancing costs with profits. He began developing land in 1995 and became a fully independent developer by 1997. Over the years, his leadership guided the successful development of more than 25 communities across North Alabama.

As Alabama Heritage grew, Collins shifted his focus from daily operations to strategic leadership. His deep understanding of every aspect of the business allowed him to identify and place talented individuals in key roles, ensuring the company’s continued success.
In 2002, Jim Wright joined Alabama Heritage as a partner, allowing Collins to focus more on market research, land acquisition, and product development. With this expansion, the company reached new heights—building an average of 130 homes per year with an average sales price of $300,000.

In 2016, Collins returned to his roots with the rebirth of Pearson Homes—a company dedicated to crafting homes that reflect both innovation and individuality. This new chapter focuses less on volume and more on the homeowner experience.
